SCACS supports UTA

South Carolina Association of College Stores Supports National Used Textbook Association

Omaha, Nebr., December 5, 2007 - As part of a nationwide initiative to help make college textbooks more affordable in the industry, the South Carolina Association of College Stores (SCACS) has officially voiced its support for the Used Textbook Association (UTA).

The Used Textbook Association advocates the role and value of used textbooks in the marketplace. The group is working toward a marketplace solution to the problem of textbook affordability while still providing students with high-quality educational materials. The objectives of the association include limiting un-necessary bundling, built-in obsolesce, and new editions. In addition, the association is working to improve faculty adoption rates ensuring more money for students at the buyback counter and more used textbooks being available the following term.

As a supporter of UTA, SCACS will work with the UTA to expand understanding of the value and advantages of used textbooks among both faculty and students.

"SCACS member stores recognize that used books are a key component to reducing textbook costs to students. We look forward to promoting this association as a tool that is a very valuable asset to our members." said Scott Pilgrim, Bearcat Shop Manager, SCACS member.

Jim Sheppard, Executive Director, UTA said: "We are pleased to have the support of SCACS. As the UTA continues to grow and expand, we believe it is important for us to work in collaboration with the regional associations already working with the local bookstore."
