UTA Recognizes Faculty with Textbook Scholarships

Used Textbook Association Scholarships Recognize
Faculty Efforts to Support Textbook Affordability

Omaha, Nebr., May 6, 2008 - The Used Textbook Association has announced a new scholarship program that recognizes the efforts of outstanding faculty to provide affordable textbooks to students. The Faculty Recognition Textbook Scholarship Contest will recognize 10 faculty members and, in their honor, will award $500 textbook scholarships to students on their campuses.

UTA members can nominate faculty members that have demonstrated a commitment to affordable textbooks for students and to used textbooks. Entries will be evaluated on faculty members' efforts and impact to help students.

Ten faculty members will be selected as winners, and the nominating UTA bookstore will receive a $500 scholarship on behalf of the winning faculty member. The UTA member and the winning faculty member then have the opportunity to pass the $500 award for textbooks to students through their bookstores. Winners of the Faculty Recognition Textbook Scholarship Contest will be announced at the end of June.

"The Used Textbook Association recognizes the key role that faculty have in selecting textbooks and promoting affordable options for students. With this contest, bookstores salute the faculty efforts," said Barry S. Major, President, Used Textbook Association. "We are proud to demonstrate our appreciation to the contributing faculty members and, in turn, provide textbooks assistance to deserving students."

Used Textbook Association member bookstores across the country can participate. "It is imperative to involve faculty to reduce the costs of textbooks to students," said Barbara Racine, Manager, University of Puget Sound Bookstore, Tacoma Washington. "Without the faculty support, we struggle even more to keep textbooks affordable for students through used textbooks."
