Used Textbook Association Expands Focus on Education With Addition of New Committee
Omaha, Nebr., March 31, 2008 - The Used Textbook Association expands their focus on education with the formation of the new Education Committee. The group, comprised of volunteer UTA members, will highlight the bookstore perspective in the development of messages and materials to promote textbook affordability.
"The addition of the Education Committee brings the expertise and issues of member bookstores to the forefront as the UTA develops new programs and support tools for members," said Barry S. Major, President, Used Textbook Association. "With this perspective, the UTA will develop educational materials to effectively influence bookstore managers, faculty, and college and university administrators on the solutions of textbook affordability through robust used textbook programs."
The UTA Education Committee will initially focus on providing insight and input for formal education sessions conducted at conferences; preparation of articles for industry publications; presentation of webinars for members; and development of additional material on UTA website, www.usedtextbookassociation.org
Members of the new UTA Education Committee are:
- Debbie Akins, Tichenor College Textbooks (wholesale representative)
- Starla Clawson, Oklahoma State University
- Kay Farley, Washburn University of Topeka
- Bill Hockensmith, University of Maine
- Jay Menninger, University of Vermont
- Heather Shuey, Johnson County Community College
- Gary Thompson, St. Mary's University
