Government Relations Initiatives

Congress and a number of states have introduced legislation to address the issue of textbook affordability. To help bookstore managers bring appropriate legislation to law, the Used Textbook Association will:

  • Support bookstore managers who are lobbying legislators to enhance pending legislation to include the importance and value of used textbooks and strong buy-back programs as an element in the overall mix of textbook affordability.
  • Focus on full disclosure of changes within new editions, limiting custom publishing and independent sales of bundled items.
  • Work to partner with other constituents and add value to legislation already underway.

Media Outreach

The Used Textbook Association will leverage the media to:

  • Promote the role and value of used textbooks in the marketplace
  • Ensure that the role and value of the used textbook is included in future articles on the issue.
  • Help further balance reporting and provide additional perspective on the solutions to textbook affordability.
